My Maanmies (b. 1989, Umeå, Sweden) works with liminal states through repetitive processes at the intersection of painting and sculpture. Her monumental works emerge from an exploration of life and death, light and darkness, and the cyclical movements of the psyche. Thoughts and states of being are carried through chaos, dissolution, and potential. Maanmies engages with presence and absence through an inward journey toward remembrance—a process in which each gesture is both new and an echo of those before it. Here, darkness becomes the threshold of light, holding both in tension.
